3 Nazi War Criminals Charged

Appellhofplatz, 50667 Köln, Burgmauer entrance

From October 1979 to February 1980 Kurt Lischka, Herbert Hagen and Ernst Heinrichsohn appeared before Cologne’s Appellhofplatz Court, charged with having organized, as officials of the Reichssicherheitshauptamt (‘Reich Security Head Office’) in France, the deportation of more than 73,000 Jews. The trial ended with relatively severe sentences of between 6 and 12 years’ imprisonment. Prosecution of the trio was primarily due to the persistent efforts of Beate and Serge Klarsfeld and surviving relatives of Shoah victims.
