About this project
A joint app tells the story(s) between the houses
For the app "Between the Houses", employees of the NS-Documentation Centre of the City of Cologne and the MiQua. LVR-Jüdisches Museum in the Archaeological Quarter Cologne worked together on the app "Between Houses". The aim of the project is to take users to places they would not necessarily associate with Jewish history: Who lived and worked in Elisenstraße? What significance did the Disch-House have for Jews in the 1930s? And what happened at Marsplatz? The app provides answers to all these questions using historical sources, multimedia content and statements by contemporary witnesses, and thus provides insights into the history of Jews from Cologne.
The two houses are located in authentic places, in historical buildings or in historical squares. The app takes this urban approach further, so that Cologne itself becomes part of the two institutions and their mediation concepts. Both institutions have complemented each other with their collections and research stands and in this way create in-depth levels on the topics of persecution of the Jewish population in the cityscape and Cologne under National Socialism.
A generous grant from the NRW Foundation and support from the sponsoring association MiQua-Freunde e. V. form the basis for implementing the project.
This project would not have been possible without the support of the families of former Cologne residents. With their stories and artefacts, they contribute significantly to the success of this diverse museum programme.
In particular, we would like to thank the Moses, Tobar and Stern families for their trust. We have always found our dialogue with them inspiring and appreciative.
We would also like to thank all the external contributors for their expertise and assistance.
