An office building as sports venue
Auf dem Berlich 32, 50667 Köln
From May 1934 to February 1938, this inconspicuous early 20th century residential and commercial building played an important role in Jewish life in Cologne as the headquarters of the Jüdischer Turnverein 02 Cologne (Jewish Gymnastics Club 02 Cologne), also known as JTV for short and founded in 1902. From October 1936 to November 1938, the increasing marginalisation of Jews in sport led the club’s table tennis section to use the premises as a training centre.
