Founded in Cologne in April 1933, SC Hakoah, like many other Zionist-influenced sports clubs, joined the Maccabi movement. In a 1989 interview, Sara Ballin (born Sophie Goldberg in Cologne 1926) describes a defining memory from her childhood. She was a member of SC Hakoah and her comments make it clear how hostility towards Jewish sportspeople, regardless of age, revealed itself.
