The Disch-House
A last refuge for Jewish culture under the Nazis
Brückenstraße 19, 50667 Köln
Founded in autumn 1933, the Jewish Cultural Confederation of the Rhine and Ruhr had its headquarters at Disch-House in central Cologne. It offered Jewish artists what was often their only opportunity to continue working despite the repressive measures of the Nazi regime, and it allowed Jewish audiences to attend theatre performances, concerts, and films. In 1935, the association had 1600 members in Cologne and 5000 in total; at times it permanently employed almost 200 people.
