A memory of schooldays

Born in Cologne in 1926, Ingelore Silberbach lived with her family in the Marienburg district. In spring 1938, she had to transfer from the municipal Königin-Luise school to Jawne, which she attended for less than six months before being sent to Great Britain like her elder sister Gisela.

Before her departure, her teachers Feo Joseph and Dora Löb and 30 fellow Jawne students wrote in her poetry album as a memento. Other entries and drawings by her new friends in England followed. After a year or so in England, Ingelore Silberbach travelled on with her sister to the USA, where they met up with their parents again.
