A special memento

The Nazi regime made emigration extremely difficult for Jews who wanted to leave the country. This meant, among others, that they were only allowed to take very limited luggage with them. Nevertheless, Hans Tobar took this coffee-maker embossed with the Kaiserhof seal with him as a memento when the family emigrated to the USA in 1939 – another sign of how important the carnival was to him.
